Have you ever had a song playing over-n-over in your mind? Recently the chorus from the current hit "Breath You Take" by George Straight was going through my mind...
"Life's not the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away..."
It's difficult enough to be present in everyday life and during the Holiday season it is often even harder to avoid the automatic pilot mode of "doing" that we miss the "being". We overspend, eat, and drink under the rationale "it's the Holidays".
What if this year you didn't let that happen?
· What if you stuck to your budget, maybe even not give a monetary gift, rather the gift of your time, your presence of doing an activity with loved ones?
· What if you decided to eat mindfully at that Holiday party and really taste the food?
· What if you didn't drink at all or limited yourself to one drink in order to really engage in conversation with people you haven't seen since last Thanksgiving?
The George Straight song is about making the time to be present, to make conscious choices of "being there" for loved ones - even when it's not convenient. To notice the moments of life so we don't "miss the point trying to win the race".
This Holiday season, celebrate mindfully and let the moments take your breath away.
